Woodcuts are a Relief Printing process where marks are cut into the surface of the wood block, then inked up by rolling ink over the carved Woodblock and printed either by hand or through a Printing Press.
My Woodcuts below are based on Theatrical performances in particular 'Mother Courage' by Bertoldt Brecht which I saw performed at the National Theatre, London. I began the prints by posing human models which I photographed and then created a series of drawings from. My drawings were then transferred onto Woodblocks, usually Birch Plywood before being carved with specialist woodcutting tools and then inked up using rollers and a standing Etching Press.
